Goin' to the Dogs

Ever since I can remember I have been an artist and a dog lover. If I wasn't drawing, weaving or sculpting, I was busy befriending every dog and cat in the neighborhood. I wanted to be a veterinarian, however my schooling was detoured towards a degree in athletic training, rather than animal medicine.

My art also took a turn to Native American Folk Art where my work was accepted in a Santa Fe, New Mexico gallery. Going back to school several years ago, I decided to finally fulfill my long ago passion to work with animals. I started my study at Pierce College's Veterinary Technician program and graduated in 2004. It was at this time too, that my art was directed back to animals and my colored pencil pet portraits have won awards in juried shows. My adventurous artful mind however, yearned for more expression, so I started sculpting in metal.

A Plasma cutter, MIG welder, and a sand blaster are my new tools for my metal sculpting. This new medium allows me to combine my love for animals and art. I have used my six rescued dogs, Spam, Brillo, Thud, Walter, Muscle Butt and Stella, for some of the models.

It is because of my passion for dogs and especially those that have been terribly abused, that a large portion of my profit is donated in the form of consumables to Villa Lobos Pit Bull Rescue in Agua Dulce. This rescue holds hope for one of the most mistreated, misunderstood and maligned breeds of dogs. In my small way I try to right the wrongs humans have inflicted.

So it is with great love and affection that my work is truly :

"Goin' to the Dogs."
